Fez el Bali is the city of artisans, the intoxicating warren of crisscrossing lanes are alive with industrious weavers, potters, tanners, metalworkers and embroiderers.

Mouhib grew up on a bluff above the main town where the daily play of light is filtered by the blueblack smoke of the zellig-makers’ burning olive pits. On the horizon are the ancient tombs of the Merenids on whose slopes brightly hued leather is drying in the morning sun. Above the caw of storks, the clanging of hammer on metal sets a tempo in Place Seffarine.

Mouhib’s fascination of handcrafted beautiful objects began early and continues to grow, as he learned age-old skills that still abound in the wondrous city of his birth, Fez.  
By weaving different medium, such as leather, horn, wool, cotton, wood and metal together, he sources, designs, oversees the production and personally hand-finishes a range of scarves, bags, accessories and home-wares.  Because of this, every piece is undeniably unique.

If you are ever in Fez Mouhib will be delighted to show you the workshops he uses and introduce you to Abdelali, Hassan, Fatiha and many others whose skills are essential in the making of Mouhib. As a team we are passionate about celebrating the creativity of our artisans by drawing inspiration from traditional techniques whilst embracing a contemporary style.
Mouhib variously draws his inspiration from Berber graphic colours, abstractions inspired by Mark Rothko paintings and the blend of African/Arab &Jewish craft & art techniques found in Morocco. Each of the elements used to create his works capture the essence of his home city of Fes, being an historical kaleidoscope of culture and religion.

His studies at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts have fine honed his skills, made evident with each unique creation. The materials used are hand picked to guarantee a fine quality, we can trace the farmers who fed the goats and the weavers who wove the wool as we work a sustainable model. At Mouhib creating beautiful wearable art, with the intention to enhance the lives of our artisans through creative opportunity is our aim.
